 REBIRTH, SMOKE AND MIRROR
Egg Vessels
2022-2023

"The "Rebirth, Mirror and Smoke" Egg Vessels Collection II is a series of porcelain sculptures that explore the concept of mirroring. This process connects us to others, ourselves, and nature, reflecting the bonds between mother and child, empathy, learning, and creation inspired by nature's beauty and complexity.

I experimented with the egg shape, which represents the womb, life, and transformation. The pieces were created in the Arctic Circle, Finland, in 2022, in collaboration with Korean artists. The sculptures were wood-fired for a week, resulting in alabaster-like surfaces created by the interaction of ashes and smoke.

Delicate and valuable materials were chosen to celebrate life and the bond between mother and child. The use of porcelain, gold, and the wood-firing process all contribute to the symbolic and aesthetic qualities of the collection. These ideas resonate deeply with my personal story and artistic vision, emphasizing themes of rebirth, connection, and the beauty found in imperfection.

Gold accents in the alabaster vessel were used to represent light, hope, and strength. This decorative technique not only adds a visual contrast but also imbues the pieces with a sense of preciousness and significance. The use of gold connects the work to themes of motherhood, birth, joy, and gratitude. The piece was restored due to damage in transportation, and the significance of that restoration being completed in Bizen by a Japanese restoration technician adds value, significance, and a deeper meaning to the exhibited piece."
